Life Coaching is not an easy profession as it comes with many meticulous obstacles. As life coaches, we often impress people by what we do on a daily basis to the extent that they would instantly sign up for a life coaching course to pursue the career that we have embodied with love and passion.
But usually people neglect to see or even ask what are the behind the scenes’ obstacles and challenges that we encounter on a daily basis which can only be abolished with the passion that we have for our career.
Unfortunately, many people neglect to do their research about becoming a life coach and choose the easy way to earn the title due to low self esteem purposes.
Becoming a life coach requires a financial investment that should not go below a certain average as the price of investment goes simultaneously with the credibility of it.
That is why in this blog, we will focus on what it takes to become a professional life coach, and what you should do to become a life coach.
Below are the steps that a person should not neglect before becoming a Life Coach.
1.Explore the extent of your interest.
In many cases, people mix between their interest and willingness to make a profession out of this interest or hobby.
For instance, many people are interested in psychology where they can learn more about human nature and how to deal with it, however, they go for the extreme and decide to make a career out of it.
Overtime as their interests and hobbies increase, they tend to fight their inner battle to work all their hobbies and make a living out of it. Consequently, they start sabotaging themselves while comparing themselves to others who know their path. In reality, all they have to do is label their hobbies, their interests and their careers differently.
2.Research The School You Are Getting Accredited From!
Numerous people today advertise themselves as Life Coaches, however, when we dig deeper in discussions with them, the fact is that they have graduated from schools which are not accredited.
There are other accredited schools other than ICF, however, it is very important to choose one that is as prestigious as ICF for many reasons. Firstly, the ethics and the competencies in ICF are very strict in protecting the client and the coach.
It explores every part of the coaching agreement leaving nowhere for wonders or questions. Most importantly, graduating from an accredited coaching school will make the client feel safe in the coach’s hands due to the accredited credentials which the client can explore online to learn more about the capabilities of their coach during the coaching sessions.
3.Graduating From International Coach Federation (ICF) or Similar.
To graduate from an ICF accredited coaching institute, the following must be done:
-You must earn 60 hours of Certified Professional Coach (CPC) training program, which you can find in Legacy Coaching Institute.
-You must finish 10 hours of mentored coaching.
-100 hours of coaching must be fulfilled with at least 8 clients where 25 of those hours are pro-bono.
-Lastly, you must register online for the Coach Knowledge Assessment (CKA) in order to earn your Associate Certified Coach Credential (ACC).
